Admission Wednesday: Welcoming the Sun

I admit... The sun is doing WONDERS for my psyche. Seriously I feel so much more positive and I can't even tell you how awesome it was to walk out of yoga yesterday and the sun was still bright and shining. And it was 5:30! And I checked my phone and saw that sunset wouldn't be until 7:00 and I almost cried from happiness. The sun makes such a huge difference and I'm so, so, SO happy that it's decided to come out from hiding since October.

Hi, I'm a giraffe.
Mountains in the distance!!
I admit... I'm trying to focus on positivity. Too often I find myself being frustrated with the things I've chosen to do. This isn't right. Sure, for a while I thought "Push yourself out of your comfort zone! New city, new things!" but after a year and a half of being discontent upon waking up the morning of an obligation that I really didn't want to do (teaching, being a camp counselor, etc.)... I've gotten kind of tired of it. Today is the last obligation I have for a while, other than seeing shows my friends are in, and the wedding. I think, after the wedding... it's time for me to choose things that just make me happy.

Yoga is my positive.
I admit... The above doesn't mean I'm giving up. I'm still going to go to auditions, go back to voice lessons, go to that acting coach, etc. That stuff makes me excited to do. I'm talking about the things I choose to do just because I'm sort of good at it. Like choosing to work in retail just because I'm good and efficient at doing laundry and folding clothes. That's... not a good reason. Being a teacher is another thing. I'm just inherently good at it, so I gravitate towards jobs that involve it. But I dread it every single time it comes up on my calendar, and afterwards I don't feel that fulfilled. So why do it at all?

<3 some of my best friends
I admit... I'm posting this on a Thursday and I suck. But... my blog, my rules, right?

Admission Wednesday: Dallas Showers (Bridal and Snow)

I admit... Wedding stuff is stressing me out. Currently I'm typing this post from Dallas. I'm here for a few wedding chores before I go off to my Bachelorette shindig in San Diego on Thursday (can't wait!!), but mainly I'm here for Shower #1, Dress Fitting #2, and meeting with the reception venue coordinator, as I've never seen it in person. Though those are three very small obligations, that doesn't include the shopping we did for the veil, garter, earrings (still haven't found those yet), bridesmaid accessories, and mother of the bride dress & shoes. Seriously, ALL of Saturday and Sunday was devoted to shopping for accessories and clothes. I'm exhausted!!

I admit... I am actually kind of really upset that I didn't get any pictures of my Bridal Shower, of my table with presents on it, or of me with any of my guests (except two quick ones at the end: 1 with my mom and sister, 1 with me and my bridesmaids). I think a few people took some with their iPhones of me opening presents but I can't help but assume they're all blurry. :(

One of the only pictures I took :(
me and 3 of my bridesmaids :)
My mom and my sister!
Despite the lack of pictures, I had a lovely time. I got a lot of great stuff that was listed on my registry, but I also got something that wasn't on my registry: an apron from my grandmother who hosted the shower. It was so thoughtful!! And cute, too!

I also received really nice letters and well wishes, but I think my favorite was this old picture of me and my maid of honor, who wasn't able to make it:

Aren't we precious??
I admit... I've gotten used to the familiarity of always knowing what temperature it is outside. In Seattle, it's always 45-50 degrees, and either cloudy or beautiful. If it rains, it's not that bad. We've been having some bad wind recently but that's only really been at night. In any case, I haven't had to check my phone constantly to see what I needed to wear.

Welp, that's definitely not the case in Dallas. I got in Friday night and it was about 80, on Saturday we were shopping all day in about 75 degree weather, and had dinner out on the patio that in the nice 70 degree weather.

Eating on the patio at Blue Goose Cantina Saturday night- YUM
But, by Sunday it was 25 degrees.

And icing. And snowing.

....What?!? It was 80 degrees less than 36 hours before this picture was taken!
I admit... I still get really excited about snow, and don't mind so much when I have to borrow my mom's hat, coat, and gloves to be able to go outside and not freeze to death. I think cold weather makes everyone pretty stylish if you know what accessories to wear.

Next up: Running!

Admission Wednesday: Valentine's Day, and Tread Lightly

I admit... I've been feeling a little unmotivated on all fronts. I know I've been lacking on the blog posts lately, so here's to changing that!

I admit... we spent Valentine's day at home. We figured the restaurants were way too crowded, anyways. The day began at 12:01am with him surprising me with beautiful flowers:

And ended with cake, wine, and a home-cooked meal.

watching Monty Python extras :)

I admit... We officially dropped an anniversary. Our "old anniversary" was February 15, but that date was already kind of wishy washy - it was the day when we "officially" declared that we were exclusively boyfriend and girlfriend, but we've always really treated December 26th (the anniversary of our very first date) as the actual anniversary of us getting together.. because it's true.

But, we still ended up going out to eat at Ruth's Chris to celebrate.

It was rainy and cold, but at least we looked cute?

The table had little hearts all over it :)
JW's cufflinks are actually USB drives!! So cool!
Our table of delicious food
Dessert... of course.
We DEVOURED it.
I admit... On the topic of eating, this weekend was absolutely terrible. Pretty sure I gained 5 pounds. Oh well - the week after a weekend of indulgence is always the hardest, but I'm trying my best to get back on the healthy bandwagon. It's a journey, right?

I admit... I take things way too seriously. I've said this a lot on the blog, but I have to say it again. My yoga teacher told us today, to take our practice lightly. Practice with a sense of humor and laughter, just like you should go through life. There's a quote that my friend has as the cover photo of her facebook -

"There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair." Just... lightly. Do everything lightly.

I admit... I really want to lose myself in a book, but I can't decide which one. Any recs?

Admission Wednesday: Control

I admit... Yesterday, I didn't feel like going to yoga, but I did feel like running. So I ran on the treadmill for a total of 3 miles, but with walking breaks it totaled up to 4. It was a dismal run and I felt so tired - maybe I'm still recovering from giving blood? - but I'm happy I at least worked out and got my run in for the week.

I admit... I have a control problem. I think everybody inherently does, but by varying degrees. Some are full blown, some are minor. I'm somewhere in the middle, but pushing the "full on control freak" part of the scale. I like knowing what's going to happen, aka being in control of the situation. I hate being thrown for a loop, and being unprepared. It knocks me off my game.

Today in yoga, our teacher mentioned how the only thing we were in control of was our emotions. We can't be in control of anything else, because it's just not possible, so why even try? What we can control is how we react to situations. So, focus on that.

I admit... I am so jealous of the Texas snow and multiple snow days. I really love it when it gets cold and you have to bundle up and sit next to the fireplace all day just to stay warm. I guess because it screams "Vacation!" to me. In Bellevue, the weather has been mild, except for the one snow day last week. But, these views aren't the worst:

However, the sun isn't half bad.
I admit... I am obsessed with BBC's Sherlock. Oh my god. What a good show!!! I'm a little late on the fangirl train, but man am I glad I hopped on. British shows are the best.

I admit... I really hate our apartment complex sometimes. Driving back from yoga, I ran into this:

Huh. So I had to park in the public spaces, walk around the building, and up to my apartment in my sweaty yoga gear. Gross. Generally I want the least number of people possible to see me in that state so I wasn't very pleased. Plus, then I had to go back a few hours later to fetch my car, and drive it down to my regular parking spot so it would be ready tomorrow morning. What a pain! Oh well. You can't control everything, right?

Any admissions for yourself?

Admission Wednesday: "Diets" and Side-view Mirrors

I admit... My old roommate's wedding invitation arrived yesterday (she is coincidentally having her wedding almost exactly 1 month before mine) and I almost cried from the beauty of it. The stationary was exquisite, the thick paper folded into thirds with little pockets and an intricate pattern on the outside. I really can't wait for her wedding weekend. It made me feel a little ashamed of my invitations, though: I plan on hand-writing them (nightmare) and attempted to use as little paper/postage as possible, so we're having people e-mail us their RSVPs. Is that tacky? I hope not.

I admit... I think green juice is disgusting.

I admit... I'm cooking/home-making things more often, and while I do feel more healthy, really all it does is make me do dishes more often.

Homemade granola bars
I admit... Sometimes, I really don't like it when it's sunny here. 2 reasons: A) Usually that means it's much, much colder than usual. B) I feel like the sun is mocking me somehow for staying inside. Like, because it's sunny, I should be spending as much time outside as I can. But sometimes you just want to stay inside and be warm and comfy, you know?? (Related: my hands are freezing right now typing this.)

I admit... I had a great time on Superbowl Sunday (though I ate a little too much), but the game wasn't really that exciting. I mean, yeah, we were winning, but within 12 seconds of the game starting. It was gravy from there. It wasn't exactly a nail-biter like the NFC Championship game.

Also you can tell how we're big Seahawks fans because of all the merchandise we own... or not. Whoops. Also you wouldn't catch me dead at that parade today - not only do I not live in Seattle (I'm across the lake in Bellevue) and would have to battle the thousands of people (I've heard that half a million are going to show up??) who are also trying to get down there - but being outside today (it's 27 degrees right now) is just not on my to-do list today. Sorry Seahawks. I love you guys.. but no.

I admit... My diet is not going well. I was wayyyy too happy when Yogurtland had free yogurt and toppings on Monday. (Now can you get a picture of what my eating has been like this past week??) At least it was a "small" container??

A container used as a lid
YUM
I admit... Sometimes I'm a bad driver. But at least only to myself. Meaning, parking garages are my enemy - specifically ones that have those giant cement pillars so close to all the spaces. So, here's the story: I was pulling into a space, and I was too close to the giant cement pillar, and it started to scrape across the right side of my car. So I panicked, decided to straighten out, backed out - and BANG. The giant cement pillar whacked my side view mirror almost clean off. Damnit! Thankfully, only the mirror part was detached from the car, not the whole thing. So I decided to be crafty and fix it like this:

Ta-Da!
