Engagement, Part 2!

Check out Part 1!

Even as we rode the elevator, my mind was buzzing: Was this it? Was this the proposal? And my logical side screamed NO! Of course not! I justified that this was just something special to commemorate us seeing Phantom on stage for the first time together - a callback to our first date. Something to commemorate the occasion. He opened the door, and through the doorway I saw this:

Balloons! Any room with balloons inside is no ordinary room. This was the moment that I knew. It was a callback to all the times he had asked me to dances, using balloons.

My bedroom, September 16, 2004, after he asked me to Homecoming, before we officially started dating.
October 10, 2006 - the same bedroom, literally filled with balloons to ask me to Homecoming.
I saw later that there were also flowers and candles, pictured below, also a callback to how he had asked me to dances in the past:

I walked into the room, rounded the corner, and there he was, facing me. :) I watched as he got down on one knee and proposed. He used my full name and everything! Of course I immediately started sobbing and was able to choke out an enthusiastic "Yes!" midst my sobs. He called his sister to come upstairs and she took some cheesy posed pictures. I loved them all!

Love this!
The future Mr. and Mrs. Peters :)
My future sister-in-law!!
The ring:

Beautiful!
Sapphire and band detail
Most importantly:

There WAS cheesecake! And chocolates!
and champagne!
I took a few more pictures in the morning of the view we had (it was AMAZING):

A latte I got the next morning at Hundred Acres, appropriately decorated.
It was an awesome, awesome way to get engaged. I wish we could have stayed in the hotel longer! JW had bought it just for that one night, which made it all the more special. I can't believe I got engaged in Times Square after seeing The Phantom of the Opera! I smile every time I look at my hand :)

We look forward to the wedding!!

This is how excited we are!! :D

Coming up: Our engagement party!

Desserts from NYC

I'm back from a whirlwind vacation in NYC!

The good news: I didn't stray from my workout routine! The bad news: I still gained about 5lbs from all the desserts I ate! Lemme tell you.... they were worth it.

Cannoli from Grimaldi's
The Devil's Food Cake Cheesecake
Don't miss the GODIVA truffles surrounding the cheesecakes! :D
The day after vacations is always hectic, so I'm taking a few minutes out of my workday to write out this post so I can avoid my pile of laundry, the trash that needed to be taken out before we left (oops), and the junk that needs to be cleaned out of our messy apartment.

Coming up: a continuation of the summary of my workouts in NYC! It's good to be back :)

A Devil's-Food-Cake-and-Gin Fueled Run

Another early morning in NYC to work out! I decided to go to the gym to run, since there's a Texas-like heatwave coming through. Good thing I worked out, too- here's a little taste (hah) of what I've been eating:

Devil's Food Cheesecake at Junior's Cafe - that's cheesecake surrounded by Devil's Food cake. Yep.
So, even though I was on the treadmill (second official treadmill run of training!) it was still pretty difficult. We stayed up pretty late last night visiting with one of my friends at a club, and I'm pretty sure I burped up some gin this morning. You're welcome.

Yeesh- so early!

at least I'm consistent?
Running on the treadmill really annoys me because I always feel like I'm going SUPER fast, but I'm only doing a 10 minute mile. It feels like when I make the same effort outside, I'm doing 8s and 9s. Who knows. I suppose it's all about perceived effort anyways, and not the time - it's not like I'm going for a particular time. (I admit, I have a number in my head that I don't want to write down, lest it be ridiculous for a first-time marathoner.)

SO HOT.
I'm thankful that I'm a Texan, so I'm technically used to this heat, but damn. I hope I don't melt today!

July 4th Indulgences

Anyone else recovering from July 4th indulgences? I certainly am. Not even drinking - just eating a ton. Burgers, pizza, more burgers, ice cream, pies, chips, popcorn, and not to mention various alcoholic beverages have entered my system in the past week.

our grill full of MEAT (and corn)
Mini-beer flights at Rock Bottom Grill
The best pizza I have ever tasted
Devoured treats at Cupcake Royale
Technically not from the week's festivities - last week in Portland, we ate this monstrosity. No regrets.
The boyfriend's parents are in town, which is why we've been eating out so much. I'm not gonna lie... I'm almost looking forward to their departure on Sunday morning so I can get some regular, healthy nutrition in me! I kid, I kid! I've LOVED having his parents here, and I've seen more of Seattle and the surrounding areas than I ever thought I would see in one week. I'm so grateful they were able to come and really see the Seattle area! Thanks to their planning, this is what I've done, all for the first time:
  • Rode the monorail
  • Saw the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit
  • Saw Pike Place Market
  • Rode a ferry (yes... I had never ridden a ferry before in my life.)
  • Visited Bainbridge Island
  • Rode a clipper
  • Visited Victoria, BC (my first journey into Canada!)
  • Visited Butchart Gardents
Tonight, we're going to be taking a Dinner Cruise around Lake Washington, which I've also never done before. Of course, all of these events have been peppered (hah) with new restaurants and dining experiences. For example, in Victoria at Butchart Gardens, I had quinoa with grapes, raisins, and peppers..? It was the strangest combination of sweet and spicy, but really tasty! I had also never had chowder before...? Some people may think I was a deprived child. :P

Wonderful views of Seattle from a rooftop!
Fortunately, the marathon training doesn't start until Monday, which I will expound upon later!
