Resolutions for 2015

2014 Running Recap:

Please ignore the fact that those numbers don't add up to 600.3- but I've been promised by Nike+ staff that 600.3 total is correct. :P

9'39" average pace

133 runs with an average distance of 4.5 miles

I looked over my resolutions for 2014 and realized that I made way too many. I mean, I even made a post of revised resolutions in mid-January because I knew there were so many.

The resolutions I achieved:
  • Run at least 3 miles a week (meaning Sunday-Saturday): CHECK. This one was hard to accomplish! There were weeks where I ran 1 mile on Sunday and didn't run the remaining 2 miles until Saturday. There were other weeks when I ran 3 miles on Saturday night at 9pm. I'm happy I made this resolution, because it kept me motivated even during the month and a half of vacation.
  • Go to more dance classes: Strictly Seattle included 10 contemporary classes and 3 ballet classes, 5 ballet classes at PNB, 2 contemporary classes at Velocity, and 11 tap classes at Premiere Dance Center. Check!
  • Have a fantastic wedding day/honeymoon and try not to stress out about it too much: Check!
  • Get financial stuff nailed down for a possible house purchase at some point: I'll do you one better. We bought a house! Ultra check!
And that's good enough for me! I don't know why I tried to make like, 70 resolutions. Less is more.

Resolutions for 2015:

  • Run at least 4 miles a week.
  • Drink at least 60 oz of water a day.
  • Clean up and decorate the house and make it feel like our house!
  • Get cast in a musical, and keep going to as many auditions as possible.
And that's it! I could add a bunch of general ones like be happier, be healthier, go out more, etc. - but it would be too much. One other resolution I'm also toying with is running another marathon this year... we'll see. :)

Revised Resolutions

We've just past the halfway point of January, and I'm betting that a lot of us are giving up on our 2014 Resolutions. If we haven't yet, we're about to. That's kind of how I'm feeling with my resolutions - I haven't really been running, so my previous goal to run more miles than I did last year is fading farther and farther away. I've also signed on for a year of yoga, which is different.

So I thought that called for some revised resolutions.
  • Run at least 3 miles a week. Very very different from my initial resolution of running 950 miles this year... but I'm keeping this a low-commitment resolution because I should still keep running, just not as intensely as I was when I was marathon training. That's not to say that I won't complete another marathon this year, and that's not to say that I'll still surpass my mileage from last year. I'm just taking a little bit of the pressure off.
  • Go to 300 classes of yoga by the end of the year. With all the traveling I'll be doing this year, it'll be hard to go every day. But if I have it in my head to go to the Power/Restore combo each week, that's extra classes already if I go every day that I can. Basically I'm going to try and go as much as I can, and putting a number next to it is helpful for me.
  • Say "Yes" more. Sometimes I shy away from invitations to go out in favor of comfort, but there's really no reason I should. I always have fun and am always glad I went, so I shouldn't question it - I should just go!
  • More positive thinking. This goes without saying and is pretty self explanatory.
  • Get out of bed before 10am every day. If I don't, my sleep schedule is immediately thrown off and I feel like I've wasted half the day.
Today I'm going to my very first Yoga Sculpt class at Get Zen - wish me luck!

Any revised resolutions?

January is Hard, and More Resolutions

There's something about January that makes goals so much harder to achieve for me. Sure, it's the month of all the resolutions and getting a great start to the new year, but I guess it's because I'm still stubbornly clinging to the relaxing vibe of the holiday season. I don't want it to end!

Unfortunately, it has to end sometime. That's what makes it so special, right?

I'm back in Seattle now, but here are my workouts since I last posted:

30 degrees!!!

3 Miles by myself on January 6th. Something really bad almost happened - I was adjusting my Flipbelt and wasn't really looking where I was going, and then found myself running on a sheet of ice:

Not cool!!
The bottom right side of the screen is their neighbor's dry yard
Frozen bushes
There's something so unsettling about losing your footing while running. The house had a For Sale sign in the front, so clearly they had left the sprinklers on a cycle while it was freezing which resulted in the above. I had a few moments of panic - also the sidewalk goes in a downward slope- and I was convinced I was about to bite it just like I did the week before. Thankfully I just kind of hopped quickly over to the main part of the street so I was off the sidewalk and had enough friction to stop. Whew!

That night, I had a great night with a few of my friends from Dallas.

The next day, I ran two miles with my dog:

He was a little sassy about it.

And then I left for Seattle that night. I've since come up with a better resolution for 2014: Say YES.

I need to say YES to more opportunities and jobs, more trips to Seattle, more bonding moments with friends. If someone asks me to go somewhere, I will say YES (as long as it doesn't interfere with something that's already been scheduled). It's been going great so far!

How are your resolutions going?

2013 Recap, and Goals for 2014

Lots of people were saying how 2013 sucked, how 2014 is going to be so much better, blahblahblah. I personally hated 2012 and was happy to start anew in 2013 - living in a new place, making new friends, and really identifying myself as a runner. 2013 was good to me. Now that we're in 2014, I decided some reflection was in order:

Goals from 2012:
  1. Book more than half of the auditions gone to in 2013.  In 2012, I went to 13 auditions and booked 6. In 2013, I went to 14 auditions and booked 5. You win some, you lose some.
  2. Get cast in a musical in Seattle. CHECK.
  3. Run more than 506.69 miles (total in 2012) - CHECK.
  4. Run a marathon. CHECK.
  5. Go to more dance classes. Nope. Specifically, go to more tap classes. Double Nope.
  6. Go to more yoga classes. CHECK.
A snapshot of 2013:

Hot Chocolate 5K - March
Singin' in the Rain - June
Engagement - July
The Color Run 5K - August
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - September
First Marathon - October
Turkey Trot - November
Amica Seattle Half Marathon - December
Jingle Belle, Snowflake Lane - December
The Sweater Dash 5K - December
2013 Running:

General Goals for 2014:
  1. Go to more dance classes. Specifically, tap classes - and try to go weekly, or at least once a month.
  2. Get a yoga membership and go frequently.
  3. Eat generally cleaner.
  4. Be kind to everybody, no matter how they treat you. But also be a real person... feel those feelings.
  5. Do something nice for that big 10 year anniversary on December 26th.
  6. Get financial stuff nailed down for a possible house purchase at some point this year.
Wedding Goals for 2014:
  1. Have a fantastic wedding day and try not to stress out about it too much. It's just a day.
  2. Go on the honeymoon and have a BLAST. Feel carefree!
  3. Make the first 7 months of marriage glorious, and as stress free as possible.
Running Goals for 2014:
  1. Run more than 900 miles next year. Goal: 950!
  2. Run another marathon... after the wedding, of course.
  3. Run more than 6 races this year.
Do you like to make resolutions? Why or why not?
