Water, Hydration, and Training Run #2

Y'all, I didn't even finish the NTC Workout I pathetically gave up yesterday. But even so, I'm SO SORE today! I can barely sit down! That's only from doing squats (for 2 minutes straight) and a few lunges, but STILL. Also I hadn't done pushups in a while, and my arms are certainly feeling it!

Today was another bad-hydration day. I bought this new water bottle from Brita yesterday on a whim, because it was $8 at Safeway and looked cool and I had recently left my primary water bottle on an airplane and forgot my secondary water bottle at my voice lesson. I'm forgetful sometimes.

This one has a filter on the inside, so I can fill it up with tap water from the faucet instead of filling up our Brita pitcher and having to wait before I pour it into a glass. Sounds convenient, right? It would be perfect if only I didn't feel like I was using up all my energy just squeezing the bottle to try and get the water.  I swear I feel like a hamster, because I end up using both my hands to squeeze because it's too hard with just one hand. It's a nice idea, but I need to use it only when I'm in a hurry.

Onto my workout - I was feeling apprehensive because I had a headache (probably because I hadn't hydrated enough), was feeling super hungry even though I had already eaten a little over 1200 calories, and I didn't get enough sleep last night. Also I was super sore!!

This is my "worried" face, apparently.
A summary of my food throughout the day:

Breakfast Snack Lunch Snack
  • 60g Quaker Oatmeal (1 minute)
  • 40g pitted prunes
  • 122g Banana
  • 4 Belvita Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits
  • 1 Cup Fage 0% Greek Yogurt
  • 8tbsp Best of the Egg
  • 6 Grape Tomatoes
  • Provolone Cheese
  • Spinach
  • Power Crunch Protein Energy Bar (French Vanilla)
  • 0.5oz White Cheddar Popcorn

78 is pretty hot! pretty sure it was only about 70, though.

Womp-womp.

I admit I'm a little disappointed, but I have to also realize I just wasn't prepared. I didn't even know where I was going to run before I stepped outside, which lead to some last minute decisions and slow downs. I also need to realize that if I'm going downhill, I'm prooooobably gonna have to go back up it at some point. So, while 09'06'' is an admirable average pace, it's nothing like Monday's 08'41''. Curiously, the app says I only burned 2 calories less than Monday... pretty sure that's just wrong.

My tired, sweaty face. You're welcome.

What's your favorite water bottle? Do you fill up a regular glass throughout the day? How much water do you try to drink everyday?

As for me, I try to drink at least four 12 ounce glasses a day.

  1. Just found your blog! I love it! My favorite water bottle is the Camelbak one. I have filtered water in my fridge so it's convenient! I drink 2 glasses of water with breakfast, 1 with each two snacks, 2 with lunch and 2 with dinner! I have dehydration problems, clearly haha.

    1. Thanks - I love your blog too! I've been looking for a new water bottle for runs - preferably smaller than the one I have (22 oz). I also have filtered water, but it's from our pitcher, so I have to fill it up and wait for it to filter. I'm so impatient!

  2. Pretty sure I NEED that water bottle. I am afraid of tap water...

    1. Tap water is so gross. The only thing I don't like about that water bottle is that it's just so hard to GET the water to come out of it! I might just be a weakling so who knows. At $8, I figure if I'm ever in a pinch and am running out the door, it takes two seconds to fill up- rather than waiting for water through the filtered pitcher we have. Live and learn!
